Witt Mares Partners Appointed to National Accounting Association Committees

Newport News, VA (1/4/2010) – Witt Mares, PLC is pleased to announce that six of the firm’s associates have been selected to serve on PKF North American Network’s industry committees for 2010.

Craig Ascari, a partner in the firm’s Richmond office and managing director of Witt Mares Strategic Advisors, has been appointed to the Corporate Finance Task Force. Ascari has more than 20 years of investment banking and corporate development experience and handles activities ranging from strategic planning to financial advisory and merger and acquisition services.

Maria B. Marston, CPA, a partner in the firm’s Newport News office, has been reappointed to serve as Vice Chairperson of the Construction Contractors Committee. Marston, who is head of the firm’s Construction Industry Team, has been in public accounting for more than 20 years and specializes in providing accounting, tax, and consulting services to contractors.

James V. Poti, CPA, a partner in the firm’s Richmond office, has been reappointed to serve as Vice Chairman of the Public Companies Task Force. Poti has more than 31 years of public accounting experience and specializes in performing audits and other assurance services for employee benefit plans, financial institutions, contractors and retail businesses.

Kevin F. Reilly, J.D., CPA, a partner in the firm’s Fairfax office, has been reappointed to serve the Hospitality Task Force. As a recognized authority on issues related to the club industry, Reilly serves as Director of Club Services for PKF North America Network and is an accomplished author on articles related to club accounting and operations.

Richard G. Smith, CPA/ABV, a partner in the firm’s Williamsburg office, has been appointed to serve on the Business Valuation & Litigation Support Committee. Smith has 27 years of public accounting experience. His areas of practice include business valuation and litigation support services, tax planning and return preparation, accounting and financial reporting and business advisory services. In addition, he serves as a member of the PKF Mid-Atlantic Consortium Business Valuation Task Force.

Alan S. Witt, CPA and Chief Executive Officer, has been reappointed to serve on the Firm Management Committee. Witt has over 31 years of public accounting experience. In addition to his executive responsibilities, he represents clients in various industries and professional service fields, including high-tech manufacturers, contractors, healthcare professionals and nonprofit organizations.

Committee and taskforce members are leaders in their field, with proven track records providing service and solutions to a variety of industry clients. These leaders are chosen based on their depth of knowledge and experience.
