Newport News, VA (2/26/10) – Witt Mares, PLC, a regional accounting and consulting firm serving clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic, announced that Alan S. Witt, CEO of the firm, has been named a 2010 Peninsula Humanitarian Award recipient from the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities.
Witt was named an award recipient for his role in the community. Witt is Chairman of Riverside Health System, President of Greater Peninsula NOW, and a trustee with the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges. His professional and community work has been widely recognized, including selection as the Daily Press “Citizen of the Year” in 1995.
“We have a 42-year tradition of honoring humanitarians in our region,” said Jonathan C. Zur, President & CEO at the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities. “We are pleased to be able to present the award to Mr. Witt this year.”
Since 1963, the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities has presented Humanitarian Awards annually to one or more persons. The Humanitarian Award honors individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to the promotion of respect and understanding among people of diverse racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. On occasion, local corporations or organizations are also recognized with the Distinguished Merit Citation Award for their efforts in making Virginia’s communities more inclusive.
In addition to honoring outstanding community members, the Humanitarian Award also serves as a platform and showcase for the mission and programs of the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities. Inclusive Communities conducts programs that promote understanding and respect on all issues of diversity, for all age groups, all across Virginia.
The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities presented the 2010 Peninsula Humanitarian Awards to five recipients on February 25 at the Newport News Marriott City Center.
