NEWPORT NEWS, VA (10/4/10) — Harvey Johnson, Audit Manager at Witt Mares, PLC, a regional accounting and consulting firm serving clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic, was invited to speak at the Association of Credit Union Internal Auditor’s (ACUIA) 2010 Region 6 Meeting, held at the end of September in Charleston, South Carolina.
Mr. Johnson was a featured speaker on the topic of the Bank Secrecy Act and related requirements, including risk assessments, regulatory updates and best practices. During the presentation, Mr. Johnson focused on the issues that continue to crop up during credit union examinations. In addition, he touched upon what regulators are looking for and how credit unions can ensure they are in compliance.
At Witt Mares, Mr. Johnson is an active member of the Financial Institution Services Team and speaks frequently on issues affecting banks and credit unions and is a member of the Virginia Bankers Association, Bank Affinity Group, the Metropolitan Area Credit Union Management Association (MACUMA) and the ACUIA. He has served on the Board of the Tidewater Chapter of the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA) for the past five years and has a BA in Accounting from the University of NC/Wilmington and a MS in Accounting from Old Dominion University.
