WITT MARES CELEBRATES 30 YEARS!
Witt Mares, PLC, a leading regional accounting and business consulting firm serving clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic, as well as specialty areas nationwide and internationally, is celebrating the firm’s 30th year in business in 2009.
“At Witt Mares, we define ourselves through our clients’ success,” said Alan S. Witt, CPA who serves as the firm’s CEO. “As a result, we want to use this entire year to recognize both our internal team and our many clients and friends, all of whom have contributed to our success for the past 30 years and set the stage for the next 30.”
The firm now known as Witt Mares was founded in Newport News, Virginia by Gayle M. Rauch in November 1979. In January 1982, Gayle Rauch and Alan Witt formed a partnership and renamed the company Rauch, Witt & Company. Shortly thereafter, Michael Mares joined to head the Tax Department and in January 1984, he became a partner. The firm continued to grow and opened a Williamsburg office in 1985, followed by a Virginia Beach office in 1986.
From 1989 through 2000, the firm merged with several local firms in the Hampton Roads and Richmond metro areas of Virginia, growing rapidly. In 1995, the firm officially changed its name to Witt, Mares & Company, PLC. In 2002, the firm moved its Southside Hampton Roads office from Virginia Beach to downtown Norfolk.
On July 1, 2003, Eggleston Smith, P.C. merged with Witt Mares & Company, nearly doubling the firm in revenue. Both the Newport News and Williamsburg offices were expanded to make room for new staff and partners.
On August 1, 2004, the firm expanded its market footprint into Northern Virginia when it merged with Pannell Kerr Forster Mid-Atlantic PC (PKF) in Fairfax, a regional accounting and consulting firm known for its expertise in the hospitality industry.
Today, Witt Mares is a leading regional accounting and business consulting firm serving the Mid Atlantic, as well as specialty areas nationwide and internationally. The firm presently has five offices strategically located in Eastern, Central and Northern Virginia along the Interstate 64 and Interstate 95 corridor. Witt Mares has experienced consistent and sound growth resulting from its quality reputation and excellent service. Many of our original clients who came to us in 1979 are still served by the firm.
